Here are the most important things to know:

The Montana No Kid Hungry® Montana School Eats Photo Contest (“Photo Contest”) is open to all Montana public and private schools that participate in the USDA school breakfast, lunch, or after school meal program.

The 2020 contest is sponsored by Montana No Kid Hungry and Montana Team Nutrition (Montana Farm to School).

The Photo Contest will take place between Monday February 3rd, 2020 and Friday February 28th, 2020. The submission period will open at 12:00am MST on February 3rd, 2020 and will end at 11:59pm MST on February 28th, 2020. Entries submitted before or after the submission deadlines will not be eligible.

The Photo Contest will be divided into three (3) separate categories: Breakfast Foods, Local Foods and Indigenous Foods.

Eligible photos must prominently depict healthy school food that has been prepared by school food service staff.

Photo submissions will be judged based on a point system as follows:
Creativity - 10 points (Uniqueness of recipe, how food displayed, overall creativity)
Technical - 10 points (Quality of photo lighting, composition, sharpness, color balance, etc.)
Subject Matter - 10 points (Does the photo accurately represent the contest category?)
Nutritional Quality - 10 points (Foods are fresh, minimally processed, local, colorful, etc.)
Aesthetic Quality - 10 points (Does the food look appetizing and appealing to the eye?)

Winners of the Photo Contest will be determined by a panel of judges. The Panel will evaluate all valid entries and pick the following winners:

1. Breakfast Foods Category: Two (2) winners, including one (1) first prize and one (1) runner-up

2. Local Foods Category: Two (2) winners, including one (1) first prize and one (1) runner-up

3. Indigenous Foods Category: Two (2) winners, including one (1) first prize and one (1) runner-up

Important: An individual school cannot win more than once. A school may only win either First Place or Runner-Up in any category. Therefore, the goal is to have 6 individual schools awarded (3 First Place and 3 Runner-Up).

Prize winners will be announced within three weeks following the submission deadline. The Sponsors will award the following prizes for each category (Breakfast Foods, Local Foods, and Indigenous Foods):

1. One First Prize Winner for each category will receive $500 in unrestricted funds issued as a check to the food service staff that prepared the meal depicted in the first-place photo submission (should be used to benefit the school’s food service program with new equipment, staff appreciation, nutrition education, etc.).

2. One Runner-Up Winner for each category will receive $250 in unrestricted funds issued as a check to the food service staff that prepared the meal depicted in the runner-up photo submission (should be used to benefit the school’s food service program with new equipment, staff appreciation, nutrition education, etc.).

Each week during the contest, 10 entrants will also be drawn at random to receive a contest sticker. Winners of this drawing will receive their sticker via mail at the address provided on the contest submission form.

By submitting a photo, you also grant Montana No Kid Hungry®, Montana Team Nutrition, and Montana Farm to School a royalty-free, nonexclusive right, in perpetuity, to:
